Normandale Elementary and the Wellness Committee is excited to announce that we are building a schoolyard garden!
Research shows that a schoolyard garden will increase student's knowledge and interest in eating healthier among a multitude of other learning experiences. So why not build one? Although we are in the process of obtaining community and financial support for the initial start up expenses as well as yearly maintenance expenses, a generous donation from the Hammerschlagen Community Connection party is allowing us to get things started this summer!
We would love your help. There are two ways you can help get things rolling with us:
Help Prep the Garden
We will prep the garden before school starts this year and will plan to complete final garden preparations throughout the next few months. Planting will happen in the Spring of 2018. Going forward we will be putting together a Garden Advisory committee made up of parents, staff and administration from the school to hopefully oversee the garden. Fundraising right now is to cover all building costs like lumber, mulch, garden soil and to eventually purchase garden gloves, watering cans, trowels, shovels etc for garden tools.
Help Raise Funds for the Garden
The Wellness Committee is partnering with Davanni's this summer to help raise money for the garden.
On August 30th from 4:00-8:00 p.m., dine at Davanni's and show this flyer for a portion of the proceeds to go to the Wellness Committee. Gift cards purchased during the event also contribute.
Thank you for supporting this exciting learning opportunity for our students!
