The Interns play a key role in our French Immersion schools. The presence of the Interns in our schools and community greatly increases students' opportunities to hear French spoken by native speakers and provides unique cultural exchange opportunities. Having a second French-speaking adult in the classroom deepens immersion by providing more small-group experiences, as well as regular opportunities to listen to adults conversing in French. Our beautiful infographic shows you how it all works.

Watch what our French Interns bring to our classrooms:

Normandale French Immersion School and Valley View Middle School offer 28 internships each year for native French speakers studying to be teachers.  The interns work side by side with a licensed teacher 32 hours a week in an immersion classroom.  They will have a J-1 student visa  which has a training plan that assures that the intern develops skills in classroom management, teaching language in context, technology in the classroom, adjusting speech for non-native speakers and working on a team.  Interns  live in two host families (one in the fall and one in the spring) and will have many opportunities to engage in American culture.
