intern health insurance
Host/Partner Families, please read below for more information about our interns' health insurance coverage. Don’t hesitate to also reach out to interndirector@normandalepto.org with any questions or concerns, and if your intern has an illness more severe than a cold.
1. Interns’ travel insurance covers them anywhere in the world, except their home country. Their Student Zone has links to find providers, submit claim forms, etc.
2. If your intern has a minor illness that could be handled via a virtual visit instead of in-person, their plan includes 2 free virtual visits through the insurance company's "call-a-doc" program (see page 2 of their brochure). This is the more advantageous option for our interns financially and does require less paperwork on our end for reimbursement after the visit.
3. Prioritize urgent care and walk-in clinics to the Emergency Room when appropriate. Our interns do have a 100$ deductible for any ER visit that does not lead to admission to the hospital, vs. a 25$ deductible for urgent care visits.
4. After each medical appointment, your intern must fill out a claim form (see page 4 of the brochure) even though the provider will have a copy of their insurance card and bill the insurance. The insurance will not issue any payment to providers unless our interns also send a claim form within 90 days. This is something the Intern Director can help with. The most important is that interns hold on to any documents given to them at the medical appointment as we will need to submit copies with the claim form.
5. For prescriptions, our interns must always pay upfront and will be reimbursed after we submit a claim form. However, interns must submit:
- a copy of the "after-visit summary" given by the provider
- a copy of the prescription label on the bottle of medicine
- a copy of the prescription paper stapled on the pharmacy bag
- and a copy of the receipt showing that they paid.
Finally, pharmacies work very differently in France so your intern might not understand when a provider asks where they should send the prescription. Make sure you give the name of the pharmacy to your intern before they go to a medical appointment so that they have this info.
6. Medical bills... Please encourage your intern to reach out to the Intern Director and to hold off on paying any bill until we have made sure that the insurance has received a claim form and covered their due.
Cheers to a HEALTHY school year Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions interndirector@normandalepto.org
